Dympna is a Registered Dietitian with extensive experience of working in a range of clinical settings and training healthcare professionals. Her particular interest is in lifestyle change in relation to weight management, diabetes, coronary heart disease and irritable bowel. Dympna has lectured and delivered workshops across the UK and in Ireland, Brussels, Prague, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Oman and Hong Kong.
Dympna’s experience includes working in acute and primary care settings with responsibility for developing services. This involved improving clinical services for patients as well as delivering training on nutrition and lifestyle change to multi-disciplinary teams. She now devotes herself full time to training healthcare professionals in behaviour change skills. Developed over 10 years of working with experts in the field, this training is specifically tailored to meet the needs of healthcare professionals working in the modern NHS. Dympna has completed the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) ‘Train the Trainers’ course.
Dympna’s interest in obesity management is reflected in her work for ‘Dietitians working in Obesity management UK’ (DOM UK), the obesity specialist group of the British Dietetic Association and the National Obesity Forum. She has undertaken the Certificate in Obesity Management run by The Association for the Study of Obesity and has also completed the American Certificate in Obesity Management. Dympna has written many articles on the topic for medical and nursing journals and is co-author of the CD ROM ‘Obesity Management in Primary Care’ produced by the National Obesity Form. She is also co-author of the recently published book ‘Weight Management: A Practitioners Guide’.
Established as a freelance trainer for over 15 years, Dympna now runs Behaviour Change Training (BCT), delivering national and in-house courses along with a team of associates. Most courses currently having a waiting list.
