Cheryl Percival | Registered Dietitian

Cheryl is a registered Dietitian by profession. Having worked in the NHS for more years than she cares to admit, her deep experience of working with a wide range of patients has led her to become an advocate for, and a skilled practitioner in, applying behavioural change skills as a means of improving health outcomes.

Cheryl’s experience includes working clinically within the primary care setting with patients living with long-term conditions including diabetes, coronary heart disease and obesity to support them in making lifestyle changes. She has also developed and delivered diabetes and weight control group programmes for patients with good outcomes. She has worked at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust on a project to increase understanding of the rehabilitation needs of people with thoracic cancer.Currently Cheryl is working for the CAMHS Eating Disorders Service in Derby as the specialist dietitian in their team of therapists.

As an accomplished trainer, Cheryl regularly delivers training for a diverse range of health professionals working in both Primary and Secondary health care settings. She also works with University students on communications studies, and trains healthcare professionals in group skills, giving them the confidence and capability to run education and information sessions effectively for groups of patients.

Cheryl has worked with Behaviour Change Training (BCT) for over 15 years, facilitating and delivering Behaviour Change Skills training to healthcare professionals.

A 2-day workshop presented to healthcare professionals, which will focus on the communication skills essential for effective conversations about health. These role-play workshops, supported by video playback, provide the opportunity for individual feedback to enhance development.

Influencing Motivation

This training aims to enhance current practice, by exploring ways of building and strengthening motivation to change and maintaining that motivation throughout the change process. Motivational Interviewing (MI) has been used successfully in a wide range of health behaviours.

Cognitive Behavioural Approaches

This course builds on Behaviour Change Skills Part 1 and 2 and is aimed to enhance your clinical effectiveness by learning to integrate some of the basic CBT techniques into everyday practice. It is a skills-based programme which is supported by a comprehensive 1 day pre-course.
