EnquiriesKaran has more than 35 years’ experience in Health Improvement and Public Health practice as an independent consultant. Her specialist topic areas are physical activity, health behaviour change and group learning.
Karan’s key skills are in designing and delivering behaviour change development programmes, for professionals working on a ‘one to one’ basis or with group based programmes. She has a wide range of experience or working with both public and private sector organisations and frontline staff. Until recently she was an Honorary Fellow at Manchester University School of Epidemiology and Population Health and a trustee of the National Obesity Forum with specific responsibility for physical activity. She is a visiting lecturer with both Bristol and Manchester University Masters programmes and is regularly asked to speak at conferences and events.
A compassionate Celt and keen networker she is ‘healthily obsessed’ about creating opportunities for people to make easy, healthy choices. As her career moves into the ‘gloaming’ and she reflects back over those years, she realises that she has been fortunate to be involved in so many local, national and international health improvement programmes. She has met many inspiring people along the way that have touched her with their enthusiasm, knowledge and empathy.
She is currently working on a very exciting E-learning programme for the Republic of Ireland with the Health Service Executive on the challenge of delivering Making Every Contact Count to 60,000 frontline staff!!

A 2-day workshop presented to healthcare professionals, which will focus on the communication skills essential for effective conversations about health. These role-play workshops, supported by video playback, provide the opportunity for individual feedback to enhance development.
This training aims to enhance current practice, by exploring ways of building and strengthening motivation to change and maintaining that motivation throughout the change process. Motivational Interviewing (MI) has been used successfully in a wide range of health behaviours.
This course builds on Behaviour Change Skills Part 1 and 2 and is aimed to enhance your clinical effectiveness by learning to integrate some of the basic CBT techniques into everyday practice. It is a skills-based programme which is supported by a comprehensive 1 day pre-course.
